PLEASE NOTE: We are currently undergoing changes to our venue hire pricing structure and therefore the prices below should be treated as a guide only.

The Maltings has the best facilities in the local area for larger meetings and conferences, at very reasonable rates.

From our grand 300-seat Main House theatre to our more intimate 70-seat Studio, we have a range of spaces to suit almost every need - including our fully-licenced and very decadent Stage Door Bar.

NB: The Maltings provides a diverse and high quality cultural programme of live performances, exhibitions and cinema for Berwick and its surrounding communities throughout the year. We will consider all requests to access our facilities in the light of this programming policy and reserve the right to refuse requests to hire our space on this basis.
 

Henry Travers Studio 

  • Capacity: 150 standing or 74 seated on retractable seating, or 50 seated in “cabaret-style” conferencing.
  • Refurbished in March 2011, is a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art black box studio theatre, cinema, rehearsal and meeting space.
  • Can function as a large open space (around 140m2), ideal for workshops, rehearsals, large meetings and presentations.
  • Fully retractable seating for up to 74, perfect for presentations, cinema screenings, theatre or talks.
  • With a powerful digital projector and retractable large screen, the Studio is ideal for screenings or presentations. It is fully technically equipped with lighting and pa, including microphones etc, and our helpful full-time technical team are always on hand to make sure your event goes to plan.

The Studio is of course used extensively for regular workshops and classes - as well as for scheduled artistic programming by the theatre, so evening availability is limited. 

In order to make sure you can book the Studio for a specific date, it is important to contact us around nine months in advance. However, it's always worth asking as occasionally there can be gaps in our schedule.

The Studio generally has good availability during normal working hours (9 - 5, Monday - Friday).

FRI-SAT evenings, 6pm-11pm - £300 no VAT charged

Daytime conference/workshop/rehearsal hires**

MON-SUN between 9am-6pm - £35 for minimum 2 hour hire, £15 per hour thereafter, no VAT charged

Main House Theatre 

Capacity: 300

  • At 300 seats, our beautiful Main House theatre is the largest venue in the area, and can be used for conferences, presentations, parties, screenings and live events.
  • Our state-of-the-art digital projection facilities, huge cinema screen and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound is perfect for remote-controlled PowerPoint presentations, as well as screenings of user-supplied DVDs for parties.
  • Fully technically equipped with lighting and P.A., including microphones etc., and our helpful full-time technical team are always on hand to make sure your event goes to plan.

The Main House theatre is of course used extensively by the theatre for our scheduled artistic programming, so its availability can be limited.

In order to make sure you can book the Main House for a specific date, it is important to contact us around nine months in advance. However, it's always worth asking as occasionally there can be gaps in our schedule.

The Main House generally has good availability during normal working hours (9 - 5, Monday - Friday), although on Thursdays and Friday afternoons it may be unavailable while preparation for evening performances takes place.

MON-SUN, where the event does not affect artistic programming - £175 for a minimum 3 hour hire, £50 per hour thereafter, no VAT charged

Meeting Room

  • The Maltings has a modest Meeting Room on Level –3, which seats around 10 – 12 people and which is suitable for business meetings, play readings, club and society meetings, and board meetings.
  • The Meeting Room has some regular bookings, but there is generally good availability on most weekdays and Saturdays.
  • The size of the meeting room is 6.35m x 3.4m.

Stage Door Bar

  • Capacity: 150 standing, 45 seated
  • The Stage Door Bar is a stunning, decadent space. Fully-licenced, it serves a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including fine wines and a selection of over a dozen different blends of specially-chosen ground coffees.

The bar is primarily an evening space, but during the day it provides a relaxed and informal space for small meetings.

The Stage Door Bar serves our audiences, so it is not possible for us to hire out the bar for private parties during scheduled artistic programming in the evening.

*Evenings and/or artistic performance hires
An evening is defined as any event which precludes the use of the space for other events between 5pm and 11pm. Evening and/or artistic performance hires include the services of one technician for up to 4 hours preparation prior to the event and during the event itself. They also include our box office services, the services of our volunteer steward team if required, and use of our green room and a dressing room during the event. Please note that any tickets for your event must be exclusively sold through our box office, and that a £0.60 refurbishment contribution must be included in all ticket prices. This refurbishment contribution will be retained by The Maltings. We may be able to assist in advertising your event if it is in line with our artistic policy, and if this is the case then a charge of £50 will be made for our marketing assistance. **Daytime conference hires
Daytime conference hires have a minimum hire period of 2 hours, and must take place between 9am and 5.30pm. They may take place on any day of the week subject to availability. Daytime conference hires include the services of one technician for up to 1 hour preparation prior to the event and during the event itself. They also include our box office services, the services of our volunteer steward team if required, and use of our green room and a dressing room during the event.
